Massage is an Ancient Remedy Learn about massage and why it can help you

It is the intentional and systemic therapeutic manipulation of the human bodies soft tissues.  The three primary ways massage effects the body.

Mechanical Effects
Result from the direct pressure of the massage techniques on the body.  Compression of the tissue assists venous and lymphatic flow.  Assisted stretching techniques lengthen shortened muscles and increase the range of motion of a joint.

Physiological Effects
Results from the physical and chemical changes that occur when the body is massaged.

Psychological Effects
Mind body effects contribute to changes in the emotional and mental processes and their effect on the body.

Massage facilitates the removal of metabolic waste and inflammatory by products by the increase in blood flow and also by increased lymph formation and removal. The delivery of oxygen and nutrients to cell is enhanced through massage because of the improved vascular and lymphatic circulation and reducing ischemia.

Studies show that massage through compression empties venous beds, lowers venous pressure, and increases capillary blood flow.

Massage may promote muscle relaxation relief from muscular pain syndromes, prevention and treatment of delayed muscle soreness improved athletic performance and enhanced recovery rehabilitation following muscle injury.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked Questions/Spa Etiquette

1. How early should I arrive before my appointment?  We recommend that our clients arrive at least 15-20 minutes before their service.  This allows enough time for a client to shower, and settle in if desired.  It's important to have enough time to fill out paperwork prior to massage.

2. Do I need to completely undress before getting on the table?  You don't have to strip down if you don't want to.  There is easier access to the glutes this way but it's a personal preference.  Your comfort is ultimately what's important.

3. Can I take my cell phone with me?  We kindly ask everyone to put their cell phones on silent or in the off position during their massage.  We have created a quiet relaxing environment.  Keep voices soft and loud talking is not kosher.

4. Do I have to inform the Massage Therapist about my Medical History and current health issues and diagnoses?  Yes.  Don't leave medical and important information about yourself out on the intake form.  Please take the time to pinpoint any physical issues.

5. Is it necessary to list all of my Allergies?  Yes.  There may be a therapist who uses almond oil, and various other oils.

6. Am I allowed to tip the Massage Therapist? Yes.  Tipping is customary and in most establishments it is expected.

7. What is the going rate for tipping?  Anywhere from 18% to 20% of the full service is the going rate.  If a client didn't tip we would be concerned that they weren't happy with their service.
